Those who don't mind the cold can spend a night in ice and snow in the Iglu Village

Kühtai – There is no heater in these hotel rooms. Although the tempreatures are low in the Iglu Village in Kühtai spirits of all guests are high. At 2020m, romantic and adventurous people can spend a night in one of the 14 igloos. The “new” Eskimos sleep on an airbed with a layer of sheepskin and in a warm winter down sleeping bag. The temperatures are about 0 degrees. The night will even be more romantic for those who booked the night in an igloo for Two.

„Iglu made in Kühtai“: Ballon als Grundform

Iglus werden nicht mehr nach dem Vorbild der Inuit, der arktischen Urbevölkerung des hohen Nordens, aus von Hand gesägten Schnee-Blocks in Stapelbauweise errichtet. Baugrundlage der Iglus im „Iglu-Village“ im Tiroler Kühtai ist vielmehr ein Ballon in der Form des späteren Iglus. Der Ballon wird aus stabiler PVC-Plane geschnitten und durch Verschweissen in die gewünschte Form gebracht,

Solide am Boden befestigt, wird er dann aufgeblasen und von Schneekanonen massiv beschneit, bis die gewünschte Wanddicke von mind. 3 m erreicht ist. Danach wird die Türöffnung freigelegt und die kalte Luft aus dem Ballon abgesaugt. Jetzt kann die leere Hülle aus dem Innenraum des fertigen Iglus durch den Eingang entfernt werden und der „Innenausbau“ beginnen.

Kühtai: more and more often scene for TV-producers Kühtai (WF).

It seems as the responsables for tourism in Kühtai want to make up for lost time and several television companies are keen on producing TV spots in the highest holiday resort in Austria. This time the german television transmitter PRO 7 films for the popular TV-program “Ingrid und Klaus”. The shots from the 8 person gondola of the Kaiserbahn, out of the helicopter of Heli Tyrol and of the Igloo-Village Kühtai seems to be the absolute highlight for the actors.
